Its ultimately this is a goof experience but the controls are not quite there. Each control system out of the 3 (controller / move / aim) have a disadvantage but I settled for the move controls in the end.
You can get full locomotion with the dual shock but have to look up and down to aim. The move control gives you full motion aiming but you loose the ability to turn more than 180 degrees because the camera will not be able to see the move controllers if you are facing away from it. (There is a 180 rotate button to resolve that issue).
Hopefully some new control options will come out soon but Sony really need to make some move controllers with analogue sticks.
Gameplay wise its fun and immersive. The graphics are also very good compared to other VR games I have played.
Its just the awkward controls that let it down a bit.

I think that the graphics are excellent on Doom. Doom is a classic game i First played on the ZX spectrum back in the day. Now I am showing my age. Wow how games have involved. Perfect for the vr. Simple games work best. Shoot monsters with various array of weapons. I have played resident evil 7, skyrim and most of the games released on the vr to date. Doom is up there for value for money. The graphics are better than skyrim and res 7. Sound is great as well. I have all the different controllers the moves, the gun and standard controller. At the moment I would say the standard control is the best method to play this game. The moves take a lot of practice, and the gun needs some big improvements for this game. It was excellent for far point. With the standard controller you can jump straight into the game. The moves are good as you hold both weapons, but the learning part is moving, takes a lot of practice. Moves were for the ps3, they need a update for the PS4 with a joystick to move.

I’m a big fan of the original Doom on PC, but not the follow ups so much. This wasn’t how I was expecting Doom to be. There’s just something weird about it that I can’t put my finger on. It’s not really scary and the graphics have an almost cartoony feel about them. The Aim controller does work with this which is a bonus, but then you have a flailing, virtual left arm that feels disconnected from your body in the game. It’s weird and hard to describe but it pulls you out of the game a bit. I had a couple of hours fun out of it but haven’t returned to it as there was nothing really there to pull me back. If you can get it cheap, you’ll have a blast for a few hours but don’t expect a fear inducing, terror ride of a game as you won’t get that here.

I am no Doom buff but I’ve enjoyed the Xbox 360 and the more recent PS4 releases. If you enjoy first person shooters then this game is a great addition to the VR franchise as it certainly offers great action and it is very immersive at times. I found it to work best with the aim controller, as you have freedom to aim with the right handed guns while retaining good movement control . The move controllers would be great as aiming would be available for both weapons, but movement options are too limited (2 directional pads with aim controller vs 1 with move controllers.)
As for the game design, it is brilliant; some of the environment really makes you feel like being in a brutal science-fiction film. There is a great sense of scale too. Doom VR is the second game which has really impressed me on VR. It joins Resident Evil VII in what VR has best to offer in my opinion. Now let’s hope resolution will improve a bit with future PS4 VR games releases!

Bellissimo gioco.
