I bought this device on 30th April 2023 and have been facing this issue since the purchase. Whenever I use the wakeup word “Alexa” the device won’t respond to it 90% of the time, I have to mute it and unmute it to get it working. Tried to exchange it but the customer service guy said it is a common global issue with Echo Show device and Amazon is working on a fix for it. I hope this is true or else I need my device exchanged.
Except this issue the device is great and works fine. Get it fixed AMAZON!

Gifted alexa to mom.. sometimes alexa just stops to respond to voice commands.. have to plug out then in and it works.. very irritating and disappointment

If you are having a permanent wifi service then only you should buy it.
It is not worth for money.
In 6500 you can buy a smart tv

The Echo Show 5 has poor sound when compared to even the smaller echo speakers. The display is too small for any practical use other than a clock.
I had to have the device replaced after 3 months of using due to a display burn in issue. Though it was replaced immediately, this is not what one expects from such a high quality product.
3 months after the replacement, I’m having problems getting the device to recognise my voice. I need to shout very loudly from right next to it for it to hear me, and even then, it can’t recognise what I’m saying properly.
I have another similar unit in another room about 30 feet across with walls in between, as well as two other echo speakers on the same floor, when I shout, those units can hear me correctly but this one can’t.
I guess I’m going to have to get a repair or replacement. Factory reset did not help. And my activity log shows a lot of static in the background with my voice extremely low even though I’m shouting right next to it.
I emailed amazon and they’ve given me a number to call during office hours to get help “due to the complexity of this issue”. I’m hoping they won’t give me trouble getting it repaired or replaced, because last time i just spoke to them and they sent me a brand new unit the next day. Not a good sign to have to need replacement twice in six months.
The touch response is iffy, and the OS is very limited. Does not play well with any Google services such as YouTube or YouTube Music. That’s just stupid.
The screen is of no use other than just being a clock. Touch response is pathetic, which makes it very annoying to use. It lacks any kind of customization. The weather it provides is completely inaccurate, telling me it’s 28 degrees when it’s actually 17. You can’t change the weather provider, and the one they use have no clue about the weather. And yes, my location is selected perfectly.
Lots of random freezing and rebooting. This is the case even with my other working device. They hardly ever update firmware, so that isn’t about to get fixed.
Not worth it. I wish they still had the echo speaker with the led array clock. That would have been much better, with better quality sound.
Now that Amazon is pretty much abandoning alexa by downsizing the team to 10 percent what it was, I don’t expect any improvements. I suggest you skip this product.

The voice recognition does not work clearly. The device takes time to recognize the voice and we have to ask ALEXA, at least 3-4 times for any query. Sometimes we need to shut down the device and restart for voice recognition.
