Never heard of a Chuwi brand laptop? Me neither until I came across this HeroBook Pro sporting a bright, crisp 14-inch full high-definition screen, 8 Gb of RAM, a 256 Gb SSD, 2.8 GHz Celeron CPU, Windows 11 and decent complement of ports. There’s also a card slot for additional storage.
Making it easier to try an unknown (to me, at least) brand was this, from this laptop’s Amazon product page: “Free maintenance within one year after purchase, free return and exchange within three months.”
The product page shows the HeroBook Pro’s regular price at $239 but it was just $189 when I ordered. (Still at $189 as of 8/26/2023, as I write this review). For that incredibly reasonable price I would expect no more than 4 Gb RAM, 64 GB storage, a born-to-struggle CPU, weak dull screen and dead-to-the-touch keyboard.
After some time to get this laptop set up and put it to regular use, I can recommend it without hesitation for the routine uses most of us need a laptop for: e-mails, messaging, Web surfing, blogging, social networking, correspondence, etc. It’s no speed demon but does move along at a good pace. Game-wise, I’m into some solitaire now and then. The Chuwi’s specs tell me it’s not designed for hot, heavy and high-speed action games. Then again, it’s one-fourth or less the price of a laptop designed for that kind of game playing.
Is there no downside to this remarkable bargain laptop? Not much that I’ve found. My biggest concern, although nothing bad has happened because of it, is an apparent lack of ventilation for the electronic innards. A few days after my Chuwi arrived, Microsoft sent along a triple-whammy update. That meant big. long-running downloads followed by intensive data-hustling within the tight confines of the Chuwi’s unperforated case. So, as one would expect, it got hot. There was no meltdown, no smoke, no fire, no breakdown. Just me tapping my fingers, anxious to get this over with and hoping the heat wouldn’t do damage. Just to be safe, I borrowed my wife’s mini table-top fan and directed it at the Chuwi. No, it hadn’t gotten hot enough to fry eggs on. It’s just that I baby my gear.
If you need an amazingly good Windows laptop for surprisingly little money, you’re not likely to do better than this Chuwi HeroBook Pro. Odd name, great deal.

This is a budget laptop with a pretty clean styling. It has a reasonably crisp screen at 1920 X 1080 dpi, and you will find that you will need to have your font settings zoomed in if you want to read anything. There is a slot on the bottom to add additional SSD storage and a micro SD card slot on the right side. I inserted a 400gig Micro SD card and it read it without issue.
As typical with most Windows machines, you will have to deal with updates when you initially set the computer up. These Windows 11 updates take up nearly all of the computer’s resources until they are complete. I initially thought this machine was terrible as the performance was abysmal as it was loading various updates in the background. The disk was trashing at 100% for hours. I eventually just gave up on using it and let it complete all of the updates. This literally took a couple of days to work through all of the Microsoft update suite. Once it was done, I found the laptop responsive and easy to use. The IO thrashing was gone, apps and websites opened up quickly.
The is the perfect laptop for students and business users. Media consumption was also good as I had no issues playing 4k videos on it. The build in speaker is a bit thin sounding so you may want to attach better speakers either via the headphone jack on one of the two USB ports.
I do recommend that you take the time to configure the mousepad sensitivity to your liking. Hey Chewi, if you’re reading this, a good way to differentiate yourself is to add a little wheel on the right side of the PC for mouse scrolling. The ergonomics of using your fingers on the mousepad to do that action is really inefficient and actually become painful. I typically connect a mouse to the laptop so I can get that functionality, but it would be awesome if it was built it.
My other semi-major/minor criticism of the laptop is that it has a proprietary power supply. I wish it had a USB-C PD charger/power supply. This way I’m not a risk of not being able to charge my laptop if the charger is lost or damaged. I can easily get a replacement from any number of manufacturers. If it means that it adds a few more dollars to the cost, it’s worth it.
All it all, this is still a good deal for a budget laptop.

I recently purchased the CHUWI Herobook Pro 14″ laptop, and I must say, it’s been a delightful addition to my tech collection. The sleek design that closely resembles a MacBook caught my eye right away. Setting up the laptop was a breeze, and I was pleasantly surprised to find it fully loaded with Windows 11, which worked like a charm.
Pros:
Sleek Design: The CHUWI Herobook Pro boasts a stylish design, resembling a MacBook, making it an eye-catcher wherever I go.
Easy Charging: The laptop charges quickly and efficiently, ensuring I don’t have to wait long for it to be ready to use.
Responsive Performance: I’m impressed with the laptop’s responsiveness, allowing me to multitask effortlessly without any lag.
User-Friendly Keyboard: The keyboard offers a comfortable typing experience, making long writing sessions a breeze.
Large and Clear Screen: The 14″ screen provides ample real estate for work, entertainment, and browsing, and the display quality is sharp and clear.
Convenient Windows 11: Windows 11 enhances the overall user experience with its improved features and intuitive interface.
Now, let’s talk about the extras. The inclusion of a very large mouse pad was a nice touch, and it has been a helpful addition to my daily workflow. Additionally, I appreciate that this laptop came with everything I needed in a basic everyday computer. It was a real time-saver to avoid having to purchase additional accessories separately.
Cons:
The one drawback I noticed was the material used for the laptop’s exterior. It does feel like cheap plastic, which is a bit disappointing given its otherwise impressive features.
Overall, the CHUWI Herobook Pro 14″ laptop is a fantastic option for anyone seeking a sleek and efficient laptop that performs well for everyday tasks. The easy setup, responsive performance, and user-friendly keyboard make it a pleasure to use. While the plastic exterior might not be ideal, the pros certainly outweigh this one con. I recommend this laptop to anyone in need of a reliable and stylish device that won’t break the bank.

I got this laptop as a fast backup for my laptop that suddenly stopped working. The price was great at the time less than $200 …the specs also weren’t too shabby. Thing is, if you type really fast like I do after a few mins of use it lags. I type over 100 wpm and everytime I type a sentence I have to pause and wait for it to catch up before I can see what I typed onscreen. The left side of the laptop gets REALLY HOT after being on for less than 10 mins. I have yet to locate any vents. The touch pad even with adjusted sensitivity is TERRIBLE, selecting items, clicking etc takes way too much energy. Not great for someone like me who works from home on their laptop. The processor just isn’t fast enough I guess. But good for very LIGHT USE.

The Chuwi HeroBook Pro is a powerful machine that boasts a number of impressive features. With an Intel Celeron N4020 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD, this laptop is able to handle a wide range of tasks with ease. It also comes with Windows 11 Home pre-installed, making it easy to get started right out of the box.
One of the standout features of this laptop is its Intel UHD Graphics 600 Graphics card, which provides impressive visuals and smooth performance for gaming and other graphics-intensive tasks. The 14.1″ Full 2K IPS Display is also a major selling point, delivering crisp, clear visuals that are sure to impress.
In terms of design, the Chuwi HeroBook Pro is slim and sleek, with a silver finish that gives it a modern, professional look. Weighing in at just 1.39kg, it’s also lightweight and easy to carry around, making it a great choice for students or anyone who needs a powerful laptop on the go.

So far it’s a good laptop. The battery doesn’t last as long as it’s supposed to but that’s the only issue I’ve had so far.
