This motherboard destroyed four hard drives! Yes, it did. Every time I connected a drive to sata2 the drive was destroyed. Two drives I bought from Amazon and two were mine with DATA on them. All four drives are toast, bricks, dead! Sata1 seems to work fine. The rest of the motherboard works fine too.
I will be asking to return it and the hard drives when I get back from a week out of town on business.
I am beyond PO’ed with Asus. I hope Amazon stands by me in this.
An update…4/26/2017
I got this mobo returned ok. Big thank you and a tip of the hat to Amazon for standing by me too.
Anyway I ordered a different Asus board, an h170 pro gamers board, and it runs fine at this point. I have the very same board running in a different computer, this one I am using now, without any issues at all.
So I have tested the replacement board now. Only one XP hard drive in it. No, it will not boot XP but I am testing what the board will do to it and if I can read the data on the drive. I can do that with ease. I have had that system running for continuously for about 48 hours with several warm and cold reboots. I boot it off a zip drive with Linux mint on it and another zip drive with Parted Magic. I used Parted Magic to test the drive repeatedly and so far it is standing tall.
Soon I will order a couple of hard drives for that computer to see how it goes. But I am cautiously optimistic the computer will be fine.
As for the mobo I returned, it was total junk and it did kill, dead, four hard drives. I have been building, repairing, upgrading computers for years. I have never seen or heard of that happening. I would recommend the Asus h170 pro gamers mobo though. I have an I7 on it with 12 gig on the board and it runs like the wind…me likes.

購入して、最初、組み上げて電源を入れても「ピッ」も鳴らず、モニタに何も表示されず起動しませんでした。CPUとメモリは他のPCで動作しましたのでマザーボード不良と思われ、試行錯誤の末、メモリスロットのB1またはB2にメモリを搭載すると起動しないことが分かりました。Amazonさんから代替え品をすぐに送ってもらえました。・・・が、同様な症状で、BIOSは両方とも「0704」でした。結果的に、元のマザーボードのBIOSを最新の「1803」にして解決しました。代替え品は返送して、元のマザーボードを使用していますが、Windows10pro(x64)で非常に安定して快適に動作してます。

I did a lot of research before purchasing this CCA and it more than lived up to my expectations. Perfect design and well built, quality product. Installed Win 7 Pro with no issues. No BIOS updates required.

I love ASUS. I hadn’t bought a mobo or build a PC in more than a decade but I remember ASUS made a nice motherboard back in the 90’s. They still do. Nice packaging, components. All the screws and standoffs were there and some zip ties too. Tip: always have more zipties on hand for cable organization. Fitting the I/O shield was a little tricky but otherwise I’m really happy with this mobo.
Btw, the ASUS BIOS UI is real pretty. I don’t overclock so I’m not in there much but it’s quite sexy.

Very high end motherboard. You will be ahead in the market for next 4-5 years. it supports 64gb ram , 6th gen processor, 4 front usb 3.0, 5Gbps type C coonnector, M.2, Sata express, awesome looking BIOS, BiOS allows u to control chasis fan speed. Good work by seller they first called me and asked which processor n ram u r going to fit on this n then they dispatched.

Works fine, I suppose. I’m pretty sure one of my RAM slots doesn’t work but there are 4 of them so it wasn’t a big deal for me. Also, the pins aren’t color coded, in fact, nothing is color coded on this. Everything is black. It’s very confusing for first time PC builders. However, if you follow the manual then you’ll be fine. One thing that I really hate about this motherboard is the TERRIBLE sound card. It’s absolutely awful. It will make your microphone sound like you’re in a wind tunnel and when there’s a lot of bass in the music it will sound crackly. I bought a USB sound card to fix the microphone problem. Also, forget using this for LAN. Terrible internet speed when you’re connected through a LAN cable.
