I purchased this monitor for the sole purpose of using it as a vertical monitor. My job requires me to read a lot on my PC, and ever since I started using one a few weeks ago, vertical monitors have become indispensable in my Work From Home setup. This is my second such monitor, the first one been a Dell P2419H, commendably serving my requirements in the office. At home, however, I felt the need for a slightly larger screen; one that can be kept at a distance, so that my study table isn’t cluttered. The Dell P2719H was my first consideration. Its asking price, however, far exceeded the budget I had allocated for the purpose. My second option was the HP E273 – again, priced as much as the Dell, so was dropped. The third option was a model by AOC (a brand I didn’t know a lot about). It seemed to tick all the boxes, and in fact I even ordered it. And that’s when I came across this new Prime Day launch by BenQ. It was going at ₹17,500, a good ₹3500 less than the Dell’s asking price. So it didn’t take me long to convince myself to cancel my AOC order, and opt for this BenQ monitor instead.
On its own, this is a good monitor, and one that does its job well. Its when you have the luxury to compare it with another IPS panel, that you notice the shortcomings. Like I said, the IPS panel on the BenQ GW2780T is good, but Dell’s panel is better. The build quality is good, but Dell’s is superior. The BenQ’s speakers are rubbish, and my laptop’s internal speakers are way better. No, seriously. The speakers on the BenQ are terrible, and aren’t even loud enough to justify their inclusion. The Dell, on the other hand, did not even bother to mount any speakers, for better or worse; instead, Dell comes with a built-in USB hub, which is a far more useful feature to have. It has 2 USB 3.0 ports, and 2 USB 2.0 ports. The slower USB 2.0 ports are useful to plug in your wireless keyboard/mouse dongle, and the the USB 3.0 ports are always useful to have if you wish to leave your portable HDD plugged in (haven’t tested their transfer speeds). Hands down I’d opt for Dell’s USB hub feature over BenQ’s terrible internal speakers. Both Dell and BenQ offer matte finish panels, which are inherently less reflective, unlike the HP E273, I think.

Like I said, the Dell’s display panel is, in my opinion, superior to the BenQ’s. Lesser backlight bleeding and better colour reproduction are two things that I immediately noticed. Also, the viewing angles are better on the Dell, although both BenQ and Dell house IPS panels. Then again, BenQ’s panel is more than sufficient for my requirement, which is to read documents and articles in the vertical position. Both the panels appear to have a similar set of additional features, with one model offering something that the other doesn’t, and vice versa.
To sum up: but for the significant price difference, I would have opted for the 27″ version of Dell’s offering. But that doesn’t mean that BenQ’s GW2780T is a bad monitor by any means. In fact, on its own, I think its a very capable monitor, and its capabilities match my requirements sufficiently. But if and when you do find the price difference to be negligible, I would suggest you opt for the Dell’s offering. You will not go wrong in opting for this BenQ monitor. Its just that Dell is better, and it costs a lot more.

Ho acquistato questo monitor BenQ GW2480 in sostituzione di un monitor-TV Samsung 23″ di qualche anno fa, di quelli con le cornici extra-large con tanto di bordino esterno in plexiglas trasparente, che qualcuno ricorderà ancora.
Io non vedo, da quando esiste, la TV in digitale terrestre, al massimo RaiPlay in streaming, non ho l’antenna centralizzata collegata e, quindi non ho mai utilizzato l’apparecchio come TV, ma solo come monitor per un lettore Blu-Ray, sempre Samsung, presi al tempo insieme, per far vedere i DVD di cartoni animati a mio figlio, ormai un po’ cresciutello e fuori casa.
Avendo disdetto il Canone RAI per il DTV, mai usufruito, peraltro, mi sono ritrovato con un apparecchio che in teoria, sarebbe stato in grado, se collegato all’antenna, di riceverlo e quindi soggetto a Canone, cosa, quantomeno, imbarazzante.
Ho risolto il problema portando il monitor-TV nella casa di campagna di mia sorella, che paga già il Canone e guarda la TV, e l’ho piazzato al posto di un’altra TV secondaria, più vecchia e più piccola, con soddisfazione di tutti.
Dato che io, ogni tanto, mi guardo uno dei -miei- DVD con video musicali live sparapanzato sul divano, ho pensato bene che questo monitor facesse al caso mio, offrendo un display di un pollice in più con un ingombro laterale molto inferiore: il monitor è piazzato su un mobiletto a ruote che a riposo rientra in una nicchia nella libreria, perché ho la casa molto piccola ed ogni centimetro è prezioso.
L’installazione è andata, tutto sommato, a buon fine: ingombro ridotto, superficie visiva aumentata, immagine molto appagante.
Avevo considerato di sfruttare la porta DP sul monitor (non molti apparecchi di questa classe ce l’hanno) per collegare anche il lettore VHS rimasto fermo per anni, avendo sugli scaffali ancora qualche videocassetta interessante, con un adattatore SCART/DP.
La sorpresa sgradevole è stata che la porta DP sul monitor funziona, l’adattatore pure (provato altrove), ma il lettore VHS si è arrugginito e non passa il segnale… problema annotato ed accantonato, perché a me interessava soprattutto vedere i DVD con il lettore Blu-Ray collegato in HDMI/HDMI.
A questo punto, la valutazione dovrebbe essere 5*, perché il monitor funziona benissimo, con bei colori brillanti ed ottima luminosità e contrasto, quindi l’ideale per lo scopo prefisso, cioè monitor per DVD/BR; l’audio era svolto anche prima da un piccolo complesso subwoofer+2 mini-casse hi-mid-range esterne collegate all’uscita cuffie del lettore, quindi la presenza o mancanza di audio sul monitor non era stata neppure considerata, essendo stata superata a suo tempo per supplire all’audio sul TV precedente, già giudicato inascoltabile.
Credo ci siano due piccoli altoparlanti sul retro o, almeno, ci sono le feritorie, ma non ho neanche provato a sentire se e come funzionino: notoriamente, gli altoparlanti sui monitor sono quasi sempre molto scarsi, in particolare del tutto privi di profondità e bassi, salvo in apparecchi piuttosto costosi (mi meraviglio che la cosa non sia così evidente per tutti, anche se qualcuno lo ha già fatto notare).
In realtà, gli unici dettagli giudicati interessanti per la scelta erano stati la presenza della porta DP, i bordi sottili ed il prezzo, abbassato da un’offerta interessante… a dirla tutta, al prezzo “normale”, non è che sia poi questo grande affare, a volte si trova di uguale o di un po’ meglio anche per qualche Euro in meno, perché questa è una fascia di prezzo molto ballerina, solo che, se si aspetta sempre l’occasione migliore, non si prende mai niente.
Detto questo, che vale mezza stella per il fattore “stagionale”, la valutazione scende invece a 4* per un banale, ma non irrilevante, motivo: il controllo qualità in fabbrica, almeno quello basilare, dovrebbe essere fatto, perché il cliente, se trova quelli che ritiene difetti di fabbrica, si inquieta, fa il reso e scrive una recensione da 1* con commenti irriferibili, quantunque avventati.
Nel mio caso, all’accensione il display mostrava una piccolissima, ma ben visibile, lama di luce fuoriuscire in una zona lunga qualche centimetro nella parte sinistra del bordo superiore, corredata da un piccolo alone biancastro tutto attorno nel display sottostante.
In questi casi, la reazione immediata è: ahi, difetto… reso e stroncatura, ma contare fino a dieci e respirare col naso è sempre utile: il problema è stato risolto con due dita, premendo tra indice e pollice la zona anomala del bordo (con un fazzoletto di carta in mezzo, per non far danni e/o lasciare impronte) et voilà… il display si è assestato, rientrando di quel meno di mezzo millimetro fuori posto, facendo sparire all’istante luce ed alone; difetto annullato, monitor perfetto.
A me viene il dubbio che molte delle lamentele sulla qualità dei display che ho letto e leggo nelle recensioni siano dovute alla carenza nel controllo qualità e che i display LED siano molto sensibili alla più o meno perfetta planeità e precisione del montaggio, il che ne altera la risposta a livello di aloni, bleeding ed altre magagne.
Ora, mi chiedo, se bastavano due dita casalinghe per sistemare un montaggio leggermente impreciso, non sarebbe il caso di testare questi apparecchi, anche solo accendendoli per verificare eventuali piccoli difetti come quello che ho trovato io, evitando così le ire dell’utenza e guadagnando in buon nome, specie se il prezzo è posto tendenzialmente nella zona superiore della fascia di prezzo?
Ai produttori la risposta, ed ai posteri l’ardua sentenza.

Cuando te aparece una oferta en Amazon de un monitor de marca reconocida a un precio irrisorio, te hace dudar de si valdrá la pena realmente y si estará a la altura de hermanos mayores. Tratándose de BenQ no lo dudé ni un segundo y me decidí a comprar dos unidades de este modelo para actualizar mi estudio. Debía sustituir uno de una reconocida marca con el cual, tras un par de horas de uso, el dolor de cabeza siempre aparecía. Tengo que decir que llevo poco tiempo con estos y mi veredicto no puede ser mejor, estoy realmente feliz con la compra. Comprando dos unidades es una lotería y las probabilidades de que se puedan producir fallos en alguno de ellos se duplican, pero nada más lejos de la realidad (el prestigio y el buen hacer de la marca aquí son palpables). Han venido perfectos, colores uniformes, brillo más que suficiente, sin píxeles muertos ni fugas de luz, estables (no tiemblan como muchos otros con el simple teclear sobre el escritorio)… Si se le puede criticar algo es que la base no permita la regulación en altura, ya que, para mi gusto, quedan algo bajos (nada que un pequeño suplemento de 2 cm no pueda solucionar).
